1. 'Rome' Project: A Chrome Interactive Video

Daniele Luppi & Danger Mouse's Rome collaboration project arrives next week, and to stir enthusiasm the duo have offered fans the power of flight via the Google Chrome-interactive "Three Dreams of Black" video, featuring Norah Jones.

The awesome interactive film (check it out here - use Chrome!), which allows the user to infect the city with a blast of nature and beyond before taking flight over an Easter-egg-filled desertscape, brings together much of the team behind the remarkable Google/Arcade Fire HTML5 project from last August to test out the possibilities of WebGL, a new technology for the browser.

According to Ro.Me, “WebGL is a context of the HTML5 canvas element that enables hardware-accelerated 3D graphics in the web browser without a plug-in. In other words, it enables your browser to show some really beautiful visuals.”

The site also features a model viewer that allows users to take part in the demo mode testing of various characters featured in the video. The site explains further: “On this page, you’ll find a WebGL model viewer featuring several of the “3 Dreams of Black” creatures. You’ll also find 8 demos created by our development team, a link to the code base, and some links to resources on the web that will be useful for getting started in WebGL programming.”

Love that apocalyptic cityscape in the beginning. Interesting Mario 1up mushroom and Reddit nod towards the end, as well as recent updates including Megaman and many other gaming notables. There’s plenty of little hidden gems for you to explore and find at the end of the video (even a flying city?):

8. Pica Pic - Handheld Games

Brace yourself. You're about to be guided to the best website in the history of the universe, and if you dare doubt it, your universe may very well be ripped to shreds. Every so often, a new and improved reason for surviving emerges on the world wide web, and it's safe to say that Pica-Pic fits the bill. For all intents and purposes, it's a drop-dead gorgeous portal for accessing retro handheld games -- the very vessels that carried you through your childhood. Simply toggle through the myriad options with your left / right arrow keys, and then mouse over each game to learn of the keyboard controls. Venture on down to the source link if you're looking to occupy yourself for the next week month. Now, if only they'd build an app for porting this to the mobile side...

6. Super Mario Bros

We’ve all played Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Entertainment System, correct? If you have not, you should — these video game thingies are going to be huge someday. Anyway, someone decided to take Mario and his world to a whole new level with this great new video.

The idea is simple: take Super Mario Bros. and project it on some concrete and along a street. Why not?! Not only that, but it starts at the very beginning of the game and hauls ass straight through to the end using all of the super-secret tricks and transporting tube portals you have at your disposal. As the game plays out, someone with a camera walks along with the game, capturing the 8-Bit phenomena as it unfolds. Obviously the game was actually thrown into the footage after the fact, but you get the idea. Play along, damnit!

Eat your favorite mushroom (no, not that one…children) or flower or immortality star and flicker-skip to the other side to watch the video!

I do not know for sure whether whomever was playing the game actually pulled this off. If so, it has to be the perfect game of Super Mario Bros. ever played. I know for sure that I would never be able to pull this off, and in fact, am not sure if I’ve even beaten the whole game…stupid boomerang turtle bastards. But seriously, the whole game without even taking a hit until the very end? My brain and its database of thousands of personal games of Mario can’t come close to understanding such a thing.
