2. Henrietta Harris

Since graduating in 2006 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Auckland University of Technology, Henrietta has steadily built up a name for herself as a solid New Zealand illustrator.

She has skilfully hand-drawn hands, faces, brains, glaciers and at least seven other Categories of Things, many of which have appeared on canvases in shows all over New Zealand, Australia, London and New York; some of which have appeared on her own successful line of hand-printed t-shirts; some of which have appeared on t-shirts made by other hands (namely those of Parinto and Barker’s Men’s Clothing); and some more of which emerge from the pages of fine print publications such as BITE, Metro and Sunday Magazines. She has a varied list of clients, including Flying Nun Records, Amnesty International, Four Paws Media and Vice Magazine.

Henrietta has developed the timeless style that can only be achieved by having occasionally dipped one’s paintbrush accidentally in one’s coffee, but also combines tradition with less hazardous digital methods, all of which has resulted in an extensive, mutable, and memorable body of work.

6. Holly Wales

Holly Wales is an illustrator, educator and writer based in London, UK. Keen to learn new ways of making things look good, she explores a variety of subject matter through self-initiated and commercial work for a range of international clients, in a variety of mediums. Holly's non-commercial work plays on chance and process to produce a body of work which remains in a constant state of flux, where the process behind one image becomes the beginning of the next, focussing on the performance of chaos in a controlled visual structure and highlighting moments in time. She has exhibited work internationally in a number of group shows and has written projects and taught on illustration and design programmes at Winchester School of Art, University of Westminster, Central St Martins, Brighton University, Camberwell College of Arts and Birmingham Institute of Art & Design. Holly also illustrates a regular weekly column, “Lives” for The New York Times Magazine.

10. Amanda Nedham

Primarily concerned with the various taxonomic functions of history, Nedham’s works on paper exhibit a technical proficiency and enamoured exploration of natural history’s complex and overlapping structures. Through a process of abstraction based on the collaging of drawings, largely from television and internet sources, she attempts to focus on those moments that create tension as they challenge the governing voice of history. Nedham is the winner of the Ontario College of Art and Design’s Printmaking Medal. Her work has been ehibited in Toronto, Florence, and New York.

James Mitchell aka Nas Chompas is based in Portland and has some really cool artwork in his Flickr-folio.

2. Berto Martinez

This young master of elegance lives in Barcelona where he sketches international stars and the small hype world (David Bowie, Britney Spears, Madonna) for magazines around the world: Frau Magazine, Composite Magazine and Casa Brutus (Japan), Vanidad, El Paris, Cosmo Girl USA or Woman. His style goes from the haute couture’s world to that of Punk. As Rene Gruau’s and Vouge Magazine’s great illustrators worthy heir, he became stylists chronicler for the PaperChic collective exhibition about fashion in Barcelona in 2003.

9. Stina Persson

Stina Persson has lived, studied and worked in Tokyo, New York, Florence and Lund, Sweden, where she was born. Her distintive style has elevated her to major success within the fashion art world, exhibiting throughout Europe. She states that her work is about "finding the right balance between the edgy and the elegant, the raw and the beautiful." To achieve this, she uses ink, watercolor and gouache paint, as well as Mexican cut paper. Stina now lives and works in Stockholm.

On September 9th, Stina's new show, Perfectly Flawed, opens.  The show marks Stina's attempt to move away from the air-brushed and digitally altered images we see in the fashion world.  The attempt to make everyone look perfect in fashion has impacted Stina's own work and illustrations.  She will present her pieces in their natural state, without any scanning or retouching at Gallery Hanahou.
