1. Kazuki Takamatsu

Kazuki Takamatsu creates softly stenciled works of art that seem stunningly dimensional even though we consciously realize they’re flat. These stenciled faux sculptures of Manga like characters feel vaguely like Takashi Murakami Takashi in their (ahem) themes, but take on a more timeless quality in black and white that Murakami’s over the top pop art color palette.

2. Ville Varumo

Ville Varumo, born and raised in Finland.
Started taking pictures as a teenager.
Hasn't done anything else since, and doesn't want to.
At the moment he resides and works in Helsinki, Finland.

5. Obsessives - Soda Pop

John Nese is the proprietor of Galcos Soda Pop Stop in LA. His father ran it as a grocery store, and when the time came for John to take charge, he decided to convert it into the ultimate soda-lovers destination. About 500 pops line the shelves, sourced lovingly by John from around the world. John has made it his mission to keep small soda-makers afloat and help them find their consumers. Galcos also acts as a distributor for restaurants and bars along the West Coast, spreading the gospel of soda made with cane sugar (no high-fructose corn syrup if John can avoid it).

6. Kate Jenkins

Kate combines an artist’s eye for colour with a witty imagination. Using her background in fashion and talent for design, Kate creates amazing, innovative crocheted pictures – each one an original. Kate’s philosophy that anything can be created from yarn as long as it is made with love, has been translated into several very successful exhibitions throughout the UK and USA, including a recent one at Liberty of London. Much of her inspiration comes from living in the vibrant city of Brighton.

8. Shawn Barber

Shawn Barber has a new series of paintings up at San Francisco's Shooting Gallery. Continuing his documentation of tattoo culture, this collection features portraits of tattooed individuals and also scenes from a tattoo studio. The exhibition, titled "Tattooed Portraits: Snapshots," can also be viewed online. BB pal Jess Hemerly interviewed Barber for 7x7:

“I have no tattoos but I admire beautiful ink, and there's something about your paintings that makes me want to cover myself in tattoos. What draws you to ink as a subject?”

Shawn Barber: The medium saturates everything that I do. Tattooing gives so much more than it takes. It allows an individual to acknowledge life with permanent markers. Getting tattooed is a leap of faith that reminds you of that exact time and place for the rest of your life.
