10. Metz & Racine

Barbara Metz and Eve Racine are German and Swiss photographers, respectively, working in London. Metz was born in Stuttgart and attended the Johannes Guttenberg photography school, before doing an apprenticeship in architectural and advertising photography. She then moved to Hamburg to become a freelance photographic assistant, before working full-time with still life photographer Udo Kilian. Three years later, having absorbed the minutiae of photographic technique, her priority turned to developing her own creativity and she enrolled on the BA in photography at London College of Printing. After graduating, she started working as a still life photographer for British and German publications, often enlisting the help of fellow student Eve Racine. Racine was born in Geneva and studied fine art and French literature at the Hoch Shule der Kuenste and Hubolt university in Berlin. During an exchange placement at the LCP, she decided that photography was a more precise medium with which to express her ideas. She moved to London to complete her BA at the LCP, before continuing to complete an MA at the Royal College of Art. After graduating, she featured in several exhibitions in London, showing photographic and video work. In 2002, Metz and Racine decided to forge a full-time partnership, which continues to develop with a roster of advertising and editorial clients including British Vogue, Dazed & Confused, i-D, The Sunday Times, The Sunday Telegraph and The Observer.
