Romain Gavras—son of celebrated filmmaker Costa-Gavras—has followed in his father’s footsteps and has quickly made an impressive stamp. Last year, he helmed the controversial video for M.I.A.‘s “Born Free” and made his directorial debut with his equally disturbing “Our Day Will Come.” He’s returned, this time with something a lot more mainstream, but still displaying his signature style.
Gavras has taken the reigns on a new spot for Adidas that features a bevy of celeb cameos/appearances including Katy Perry, Lionel Messi, David Beckham, BoB and more. Oh yeah, that thumping soundtrack? It’s the track “Civilization” by French outfit Justice who have a new album dropping next month. They also recently scored the arthouse horror fave “Rubber.” It’s a pretty nifty little clip, that mixes the exuberance of these kinds of spots with Gavras’ penchant for random bursts of uneasy violence or unrest, yet somehow, it all flows pretty naturally.
